Notting Hill Gate (Circle Line) showing the overall roof, brickwork and typical tunnel construction used for the original Underground stations.  To provide ventilation for the steam locomotives, there were many short open sections as shown here.  Many of these have now been built over and only a few of the original station roofs remain.
